The Process
Building a website isn’t that hard, right? Here are the four steps.
Talk about it
We have a no-commitment conversation to talk about your ideas and goals for your website.
Plan it
Before we start building the actually website, we come up with a rock-solid plan and layout for your site.
Build it
This is where I take over (keeping you in the loop, of course!). I take the rock-solid plan and make it into a website.
Launch it
This is the fun part. We take our hard work, and I hand you the keys to your new site and show it off to the world!
What is WordPress?
WordPress is an open-source content management system that has evolved into the most popular (and best) website builder in the world.
There are a lot of different systems to build a website: Wix, Squarespace, and Weebly are a few more popular examples. These builders are great and – depending on the case – the right solution for your website.
However, there are some very good reasons why WordPress powers over 400+ million websites in the world (that’s 30% of the entire internet!). I’ll give you just three:
Better SEO. If you want to be found on Google, WordPress is the best choice. With built-in precise HTML markup, image optimization, beneficial permalink structure, and in general way more control over how Google indexes your site, WordPress is the SEO king.
Security. As you’ve probably figured out already, the internet isn’t always the nicest place in the world. Although no website is totally immune to trouble-makers, WordPress is as close as it gets. With a good host and developer, you can rest assured your site is safe.
Complete Control. Unlike other popular website builders, you make all the calls. Who is going to host your site? You choose. Who is going to process payments? Again, your call. Need to scale up? Easy. Want to break free of the template/theme they give you with extra functionality? No problem, you’re in control.
You have questions, I’ve got answers.
What’s the cost, really?
The short answer is that there are two costs you need to think about: the cost of building the website (between $2500-$5000 on average) and the cost of maintaining the website ($59-$139/month). For a detailed explanation, head to our pricing page here.
How long does the whole process take?
Building a great website takes time; however, if we get our ducks lined up, we can have a site launched in 3 weeks. The average time from planning to launching a website is 4-5 weeks approximately.
How many people work at SiteSprout?
One. I’m Ken McIntyre and SiteSprout is a freelance WordPress website design and development business. There are a lot of benefits working with a good freelancer over a larger agency like: cost, responsiveness, and having the same contact person for the launch and life of your site.
What maintenance is required on my site?
Just like your home or car, your website will require ongoing maintenance. The big things to keep in mind are updates, security checks, and website performance. But don’t worry, I take care of all of that in the monthly maintenance plan. You can learn more here.
Do you take care of my branding?
No. I can refer you to some incredible branding specialists, but that’s not me (I actually don’t enjoy doing it to be honest). Having your branding and assets ready prior to building your site speeds up the process considerably.
What about SEO (search engine optimization)? Do you do that too?
Yes and no. WordPress, right of the box, is superior to any other website platform when it comes to SEO. In addition to the native WordPress features, I’ll optimize your site for speed (which Google really likes), making sure it has clean code, great link structure, and is mobile-ready. I also use a tool called Rank Math that really helps. If you want ongoing SEO optimization services, there are plenty of business that specializes solely in SEO.
